Blue spaces: why time spent near water is key to happiness
14th Jun 2022
The warmer days and lighter evenings are on their way and now is the perfect time to get outdoors.
According to mental health charity Mind, spending time in green space can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing. Outdoor exercise such as walking or running, or even just sitting in the park, can have lots of positive effects, including improving your mood, lowering blood pressure and heart rate, and helping you feel more relaxed.
Studies have also suggested that living close to ‘blue spaces’ could make you happier, after being associated with many positive measures of physical and mental wellbeing.
Whilst living by the sea in particular – with its salty air and bracing breezes – can have a therapeutic effect, studies show that living by rivers, lakes or canals can also help people to see improvements in their mood, vitality and mental health.
When choosing a place to live, location is one of the main factors for homebuyers, and proximity to both green and blue spaces and local outdoor activities are all key considerations which can influence a decision between one area and another.
Viola Homes understands the importance of location when buying a new home, and we have a number of new developments in stunning, picturesque locations across the North East and North Yorkshire.
Kirkleatham Green is a contemporary development of two and three-bedroom homes, just half a mile from the stunning Redcar and Cleveland coastline. The coastline is a popular destination for various water sports enthusiasts, including windsurfing, fishing, sailing, and diving, and has been given a Seaside award for its cleanliness and good water quality.
Located just off Kirkleatham Lane, the development is a five-minute drive from Redcar Central railway station, offering journeys to Middlesbrough, Darlington, Saltburn and Bishop Auckland. The A19, A174, A172 and A171 are all easily accessible too for commuting outside of the town. With excellent transport links and close proximity to local schools and amenities, this modern development of 375 homes is the perfect place for families and professionals to call home.
Another of our current developments is Mill Meadows, on the edge of the coastal town of Filey. The final phase of this beautifully designed development of 300 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes is progressing well, with all homes in the first release fully reserved. Filey beach has recently beaten many top European seaside resorts in the TripAdvisor ‘Best of the Best’ Awards 2021, and activities on offer include beach pony rides, sailing lessons and deckchair hire for the perfect seaside picnic. Filey’s beautiful five-mile stretch of golden sand beach from Filey Brigg to the Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve received a well-deserved place on the list.
As well as its beautiful coastline, Filey has many green spaces to enjoy, including formal gardens and a family park at Crescent Gardens and Glen Gardens, and the Cleveland Way meeting the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail at Filey Brigg. Living in this great location, close to the sea and surrounded by the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, you will feel like you’re on holiday all year round.
The stunning ‘Haven’ show home at Mill Meadows is now open for viewings, with our sales team on hand to help make your dreams of owning your ideal home a reality. To find out more about our developments in desirable areas across the North East and North Yorkshire, enquire today.
